Wednesday

I put out several art projects that emulated the projects we did at the art museum yesterday. ..

The children also made several books that they shared at meeting time! Kenadie brought some of the art she made yesterday and added to it today to make a book.

Sometimes you just need to take a break and look at books for a while.

the art museum

We started off our Museum field trip by engaging in some shaving cream marbling!
We perused the British portrait section. I explained to the children that these paintings were painted before people had cameras to take pictures of their family. Nash thought the picture he is standing in front of looks like him when he was a baby. Yhe preschoolers especially enjoyed seeing the portraits of children their own age from a long time ago.

There was otherwise lots of Modern Art for the children to make observations about and interact with. At the end of our visit we went back to the art room and did some easel painting!

Rice & Tea

We read a book about the traditions of Chinese New Year and then went to make some rice and tea. We use a timer while we were waiting for the rice to cook and we also took a cue from the book and did some housekeeping in the classroom. It is a tradition in China to clean the house so that no mess from the old year infects the new year!

We had fun experimenting with chopsticks and soy sauce when eating our rice. The children really enjoyed it!

We also had lots more self-directed dramatic play… and Nash wrote a book about superheroes and read it to us at meeting time.

Happy Holidays!

on our last day of school before the holiday break the children constructed our gingerbread man and placed him into the oven…

While waiting for him to cook and hoping he wouldn’t run away we were excited with the anticipation of giving our gifts to our parents!
While waiting we also made some fox ears thinking we would pretend we were foxes if we had to chase the gingerbread man…
Sure enough, he was missing when we went to take him out of the oven! We searched all over the church…
It was fun to share eating him after all of our family arrived! hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

The Gingerbread Man

We started the day gathered around the writing table using our scissors and later the children made holiday cards for their families.
We read and play acted a fun version of The Gingerbread Man. the children learn to run in place to re-enact the chasing scenes!
We made paper versions of the gingerbread man and below Everett helped to clean the table after…
We did a little singing and instrument playing at the end of the day!
